Energy Scalability in Multimedia Codec using NQDCT (MA-P6)

Abstract : This paper discusses a novel algorithm that combines the DCT with the quantizer to achieve energy scalability in DCT based multimedia codec. A throughout analysis of the algorithm is presented. Simulation results showed that a 15% reduction in computational energy can be obtained in an implementation of MPEG coder over a wide range of bit-rate when compared to that of the standard MPEG coder test model.
