Abstract : In this paper we present a novel approach to using object color characteristics as a predominant linking parameter between disjoint video scenes in an unregistered distributed video sensor network. Objects are isolated from high-resolution video scenes using accumulated frame differencing and morphological techniques. Further processing involves minimizing shadow effects and creating a unique color signature for distinct objects in the scenes and then constructing trajectories using these unique signatures. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of our approach. The results clearly establish the need for high resolution video scenes and minimizing shadows to effectively generate distinct color signatures. The color signature serves as a key linking element when video scene registration is not possible.
