DOA 2009 – PC Co-chairs’ Message

Mark Little, Fabio Panzieri, and Jean-Jacques Dubray

Abstract. On behalf of all those involved, we would like to welcome you to the proceedings of the 11th International Symposium on Distributed Objects, Middleware and Applications (DOA 2009), held in the Algarve, Portugal, November 2009.

Over the years, the DOA conferences have been an excellent venue to showcase cutting-edge research and development that is happening in both academia and industry. This nice blending of short-term and long-term work has allowed us to see presentations on Web services, cloud computing, virtualization, SOA and other topics that have often foretold the evolutions in these important areas. In this regard, DOA has always managed get the right combination of the theoretical and practical aspects of a wide range of topics, laying the groundwork for researchers to address new challenges in the years to come. In fact it is interesting to consider earlier DOA conference papers and their direct impact on those submissions that came afterwards.
