In this paper, we propose to improve channel estimation quality for DS-SSS when small spreading factors are used. We take into account of the intersymbol interference structure to construct an optimal estimate according to the minimum mean square error criterion. Significant performance improvement is shown for both the Rake receiver and the linear chip equalizer.
