Abstract

This paper deals with the detection of a signal with a known steering vector which is embedded in coloured Gaussian noise. More specifically, we are concerned with the case where the environment is heterogeneous and training data is not available. We propose a new APES-based detection statistic that we call the maximum likelihood estimate detector and show that it has the highly desirable constant false alarm rate property. We also present theoretical performance results that prove close to those of the generalised likelihood ratio test (which requires the availability of independent training data).
